I think it’s better if I introduced a bit about this wonderful island before I write my personal travelogue, truth to be told I didn’t know the history of Pulau Aman before this, I only knew the history after my visit to there. I will try as much as I can to make this part interesting because we know how boring the history could be (or is it just me who find history is boring?)

Pulau aman consists of two different islands which is Pulau Aman itself and Pulau Gedung, Pulau Aman located at south side while Pulau Gedung located at north side and Pulau Aman covers 180 hectar. At the beginning, this island was discovered by deceased of Bugis, Arab and royal family of Kedah on 1817. On 1910, the Chinese and the Indian came to this island as fisherman and labor workers respectively, on 1957 until 1960; economic depression had occurred. Many locals move from the islands to the mainland in hoping they could make a better living there but this is different from what I know from the local as I interviewed few of them. According to the locals, the Chinese believed that one day Pulau Aman and Pulau Gedung will join; that explain why they move from Pulau Aman to Pulau Gedung. Nowadays, all of the villagers are consists of Malays only.

We arrived at at Batu Musang jetty around 8:40am, Dr. Widad gave us a short briefing on what we will and should do there. She also gave us some warning (kind of but not bad warning, more like precaution warning), like told us to be in our best behavior and never use ‘kamu’ when conversing with the local there. I find this quite difficult because I never use the word ‘awak’ in my life before thus it’s a new experience to me.

 Approximately on 9:00 am, we took boat as transportation to Pulau Aman. Since our number are quite large, we took divided our self intro 2 groups for 2 trips.

suppose we will do opening ceremony inside classroom located at primary school but because there are so many of us and the classroom are small. Only education group involved in opening ceremony, the rest of us are free to do our own travelogue thus my journey began.

Before I start on my travelogue, I will give a briefing on what exactly the purpose of this e-travelogue

What is the purpose of this e-travelogue?

Because I cannot came up with better idea on how to publicize my experience at Pulau Aman, thus I created a blog as medium to share on how I felt, what I experience, and my suggestion to improve the environment there.

Am I doing this e-travelogue for fun?

Obviously no, I’m doing this e-travelogue as individual report of my field trip at Pulau Aman on 25^th April 2015 for society and environment project (IEA112) course.

What is society and environment project (IEA112)?

IEA112 is one of elective course for Bachelor of Technology (Environmental) and Bachelor of Technology (Bioprocess), I will not write long and dragging explanation of this course instead I will share an honest opinion about this course. For me, this course helps me in:

• Expanding my knowledge about the world today, this course help me to see the world in new perspective, to be more precise from environment perspective. Upon taking this course, I realized how little I know about environment issues including the history too.
• Improving my soft skills, I’m not bragging but I am confident and just-do-it type of student and that was before I further my studies at Peninsular Malaysia. I come from Sabah thus the way I converse there and here are different (a lot), through this course a little bit did help me in expanding my vocabulary of local language. 
• Taught me to voice out my opinion, I could say that almost 99% of the lectures force us to think, to speak and learn to accept criticism.

Who am I?

Well, hello there.. my name is Fazilah binti Tawasil, I am currently enrolled in my second semester as a fulltime undergraduate student in Bachelor of Technology (Honours) (Environmental) at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang (main campus).
